Default security module question

so I have a bad security module on a 99 xjr lnc2600hd is the part number. I have found on the internet a 2003 xj8 that is being parted out but could not get the info from the guy if they have the same module. Just wondering if anyone knew offhand if the two share the same part number to save a 70 mile trip. thx in advance

You need to get the same last 3 digits from the VCATS (vehicle configuration and technical specifications) label in the boot from BOTH cars to match. Look in the boot near the spare wheel on your car for SLCM and record the part number and the /suffix and then ask the person who has the donar car to do the same. If they match you are good to go as far as compatatibility goes but you will need to configure the module to the vehicle. WDS,IDS or some other computer to configure the modules!! No guarantees if the numbers don't match.
good luck

Haven't replaced the security module but the TCM and seat module were just plug-N-play.

Note the above comment about the extension (/xxx) being appropriate.

Assuming you have matching VCATS numbers the only programming that will need to be done is the remote fob programming. The remote programming is stored in the SLCM. You can do this yourself, instructions are on this site.

The 99 XJR and the O2 XJ8 have different security modules. Its a long story but I am sure (I have both cars). The only difference I could identify is which fob works with the module. So, if you get the 99, get the fobs and I bet you will be OK. The late model numbers are harder to find.
