Security Module replacement

#2
I do not know what the actual differences are between these two suffixes, but when I swapped modules between MY "99 and MY '02 cars (for testing), the only difference I found was that the remote fobs would not program to the other car. In other words, the module's communication to the fob was different. As they say, your resulots may vary...
Good luck.
Good luck.

I knew I'd have to reprogram my remote for the different module. That's not a big deal. I just wanted to get one so that I can wire my tail lamps and brake lamps back to where they should be. right now I've got them all bypassed since the SLCM is bad. I just want to make sure I'm getting the right module.

SO not even if I find one with the exact same part number with the exception of the suffix after the part number, my remotes will not operate? Sorry to ask about this but before spending 100 bucks I want to make sure it will work to make the tail lights and brake lights work and be able to get my remote to prgram. I've read where guys have gotten replacements on ebay with the ssame part number as the one in the car and had success.

Hi
You need to look at VCATS list located in the trunk (boot) compartment.
Remove the boot floor covering, then the spare tire and finally pull the boot side liner (driver side) out enough (the bottom) to view the VCATS list.
Here are photos of I took inside the boot of our 2001 XJ8:
This shows the location of the VCATS list
Here is blowup of the VCATS list show in above photo
See the SLM in VCATS list - LNG2600HB/008 - the 008 is the software revision (s/w version number).

Guys:
coastal has the VCATS off his old module. He wants to know what will happen if he substitutes a different one.
coastal:
I think you can get the picture that it is unlikely anyone will recommend a substitution for any module. And there is just not a good source of information about what is different in each.

so I'm guessing its impossible to find a working module for this car unless I luck out and get the same software version correct? I mean I just want brake lights and tail lights wired correctly. Right now I've bypassed the module using the tag ligts to power the tail lamps and the 3rd brake lamp to power the regular brake lamps. I just figured same part would work in all the cars if it was xj8 module.

I SUSPECT that if you get the same part number including the suffix, you will be fine. When I swapped mine, everything worked except the fob. And the fob difference was the frequency, I THINK. So, I would say its a pretty good bet that the fob will work for the same suffix. Another idea; see if you can get the fob from the donor car.
