Seriously considering '00 XJR
Hey guys,
I've been wanting a jag again ever since I sold my beloved '06 XJ8 black/black a few years ago. I sold my '06 range rover a month ago, bought an acura, and now I'm itching to have a jag again. I wasn't seriously looking but I ran across this '00 XJR on CL and the price is too good to ignore (>$5k). I will add a link to the ad below. I also found a video from when he sold it last with 98k miles on it, it looks to be a very well kept example.
CL ad: https://wichita.craigslist.org/cto/5275478802.html
My question is, for the price is it worth considering? I sat in an x308 and loved the small interior size (for what the car is), very unique. My 06 xj8 was a champ (minus the air suspension in sub 20 degree F weather.) It looks like it would make for a great DD! But I am not much familiar with the x308's though it looks like he's addressed the most serious issues.
Thanks in advance for any input!

Doesn't look bad to me. The big stuff (tensioners) has been handled, and it looks reasonably clean.
Probably has some decent life in it, I'd say.
It's a gamble, obviously. anything major goes wrong and the repair is going to cost more than the car is ever going to be worth. Still... Take care of it and you'd be hard pressed to find a nicer/better performing car at that kind of money.

Price seems a little high, with that mileage. Maybe ~$3500. Keyless entry issue is likely the security and locking control module (~$200, used, eBay, plus labor; or mail away for repair); antenna upgrade is an easy DIY repair for about $15.
Smaller than your 06 X350. But most of the big ticket issues have been recently taken care of.

Well I'm no stranger to expensive repairs ($900 for a range rover reverse camera). I figured most of the major work had been done just wanted to run it across the experts. Interior was a bit of an upset but I can have it reupholstered if it really bothers me that much. I originally found a 2004 XJR with 58k miles for $13k which is very clean, but buying in on one of these this cheap is enticing. I understand it will be smaller, but I sort of like the cockpit feel these have in comparison.
Here is the old youtube video I found the guy posted. 30 minutes long lol

Price dropped to $4k
Wave $3500 in front of him I bet it becomes yours..
There just gonna get harder to find.. I paid $1300 for mine and are into it for at least $3000 and still need paint.
If that car were within 100 miles of me I'd own it.
PS; I may be getting a parts car with black interior. I can help you with the armrest.

It looks like one listed in marketplace here at $5K originally. I was about to inquire about having an inspection company check it out when a 04 XJ8 became available at local dealer and went a different direction. For the money if the maintenance and repair records are there it was a fair deal to me. Fly in drive home.

Guys I've turned down $3500 from 3 different people. $500 isn't that much money but it's the principle. When I say firm price I mean firm price. I know two of them were just going to flip it for more. It's already way, WAY cheap. You won't find another one cheaper in the country that's not a basket case. The engine job alone exceeds my asking price, the rest of the records spanning the last 6 years would be another 2 times over my asking if we didn't do our own labor.
This isn't a run of the mill XJ8... Seriously if you can find another comparable car offered this cheap, by all means prove me wrong and post it. You won't find it on autotrader, ebay, cars.com, or a national craigslist search. I'm down there with the wrecked and broken timing chain cars.
