Default Setting Front Wheel Bearing Preload

I replaced my front wheel bearing following the JTIS write up for the process and I was curious if I need to set bearing preload to ensure the bearing is installed correctly? Or is that not a problem that I need to worry about. The reason I ask is that I hear a humming sound at about 35mph almost like a sign that the wheel bearing is going out even though I just installed it. I was thinking that maybe it is just my alignment as I was driving on a bad wheel bearing for a couple hundred miles (waiting on the ABS nut tool from Britain) and during the bearing replacement process I replaced all of my shocks. Another thought I had was is it possible I didn't torque the ABS nut correctly? I tightened the ABS nut down to where i can install the little clip in but maybe I put the ABS nut on too tight? Any suggestions would be helpful.

You can hammer down on the ABS nut with a 1/2" or 3/4" drive impact. It needs to TIGHT!!!!!

I used a 3/4" impact. Is it possible to put it on too tight? This is my second time doing it as the first time I did not put it on tight enough and had too much play in the bearing.
