Hi
Just got an xj8 as a project. (Love these damn cars!!) lol
anyway took it out and after a few minutes got up to 50 and a shake began mostly in the steering wheel so assume front end. then it continued even at lowere speeds let it cool and it stopped for a few munutes, anyway left front wheel is HOT, so caliper is hung, but just curious what else you would check. I checked play in the wheel (no play) I assume waped rotor, anyone know if calipers are easy rebuild or just replace?
Thanks in Advance
Joe

Hi Joe,
Same issue for me. Purchased my '01 ~1.5 years ago. Shaking bad at 55mph. Got new tires, alignment... got better, not great though. But during that process, discovered bent tie rod front right (car did get into an accident in '03, per carfax.....). Had steering rack replaced (with used one), new tie rod ends, new front shocks, re-balanced wheels and new alignment. Well.... still not perfect @#$%#$$. I actually now have steering wheel not centered, and pulls one side on acceleration / braking. Alignment garage did a poor job I guess (different than garage replacing steering rack). Anyway, I recently moved to Austin, TX and will get another alignment done to see if it helps. I did read in many places that balancing the wheels for the cat is requires finesses... there's a Jag white paper on it. Also, I have Pirelli's with ~15k miles on them. Love the brand, but even though they still look good, I also read a lot of complains about them >15k miles. OK, all this might not help you too much, but just wanted to share that you're not alone in the quest for the non-shaking XJ8 ;-)
