Question Should be easy, right? (CEL not working)

Hi,

I have an issue with my instrument cluster in my `01 X308. The CEL underneath the RPM gauge does not come on when I have my key in the 2nd position of the ignition switch. The ABS, Airbag, Oil and other lights do come on. I also had an actual engine problem (bad coil), but even then the light did not came on. I suspect that the light is burnt or broken.

Does anybody know what the part nr. is of the check engine light? Can it be replaced easily, or is this directly soldered onto the circuit board?

Yeah, I am living the dream without the CEL, but I think it might be an MOT failure where I live...

On the 300 it’s a short T5 bulb, pull the cluster and find out

Its been awhile since I upgraded to LED, but you'll probably have to pull the instrument cluster to determine bulb replacement. Remove the wood trim (might be the hardest thing to do), then using a long #2 phillips driver, remove the four corner screws (a magnet tip or small pickup magnet helps immensely) and I believe that's all there is to pull it out.

Have you tried adjusting your dimmer switch to see if it comes on? Turn the key as you have to the 2nd position and adjust it.
Does the CEL come on after completing rotation of the key to start it?

Its very slim, but you may have a loose connection (or bad wire) on the FC24 instrument pack. Its imperative both the FC24 and FC25 are secured tightly into the socket.

Hi,

Sorry for the late response, I've been really busy the last couple of months and did not have enough time to work on my X308. But now, with a fresh MOT, back at it again.

Thanks for your response. Adjusting my dimmer does not affect the CEL (it's still off). I saw a picture of the PCB and it looks an LED directly soldered to it and not serviceable..

I removed the wooden trim and checked the left connector and wiggled it a little bit but that did nothing. I really think that the LED broken.

So it looks like either I'm buying a second hand cluster, or get to solder a new LED..
