Should there be oil here?
As some of you know, I've been fighting a P0443 evap code for quite a while and am up against a wall, needing to resolve it before the end of June so I can get the car past emissions and renew the registration.
Today, I was blowing smoke around various areas trying to find a leak that might be the cause of my code (see my P0443 thread). When I pulled the intake hose off of the MAF to conduct the test, there was quite a bit of oil in the hose. The source is the primary crankcase vent connected to the passenger-side cam cover. I had this whole assembly off last week to inspect it for cracks, and cleaned it at that time. So over the course of about 120 miles of driving, about a teaspoon of oil has accumulated in the hose.
Is this normal? Due to the shape of the intake hose, the oil seems to accumulate around the joint on the throttle side of the MAF. It doesn't appear to be getting into the MAF itself, just pooling at the joint and making a mess when I take it apart.
Should I be doing something to address this or is it "normal?"
Thanks

Have you cleaned the part load breather yet? http://jagrepair.com/images/TSB/XJ/6...ings600-03.pdf
Mine had quite a bit of oil in the intake when I first got it, thorough cleaning of the old oil in there, replacing the full load breather (mine was cracked slightly), and cleaning the PLB seemed to help. Though to be fair, I haven't looked inside in a little while...

I have not..... I checked the PLB line to make sure it was unrestricted, and today ordered a replacement along with a new full-load breather which was found to not be sealing properly on the cam cover despite new O-rings. I will grab a handy 3/32 drill bit and get to probing...
Thanks
20 minutes later........
I decided to not even try the paper-over-the-full-load-breather trick from the TSB, seeing as how I've put over 8,000 miles on the car and I have no idea of its prior service history. Went straight for the 3/32" bit, and sure enough the part-load breather had some gunk in it. Can't say as it was fully clogged, but it's open now... I'll keep an eye on the other side after the new tubes come in and see if I still get so much oil in there
