so my engine light came on again...
and I have a few codes that are really starting to scare me. the codes are:
1. p1642- manufacturer control axilary input and auxilary output
2. p1797 manufacturer control transmission
It's been driving kinda funky lately and pulling the same starting problems again, so I'm trying to get this resolved.
Anyone know whatI can do about these?

Other than the codes --How does the vehicle perform.
I was very lucky. on two recent codes. You will need the Jag CD- manual. Check all plug electical connections associated with the codes, especiallly those at the associated computer control module. BE sure and disconnect the negative BAttery terminal prior to unplugging and reattahing these electrical plugs
My code problem was a poor connections on the EMC - EM 13 plug in connections associated with the CAM anc crank sensor.
If the above fails it could be a poor connection to ground or a high reistance connection and low voltage to an associated sensor. Then you will need to check the wiring per the instructions on the Jag CD manual.

I don't know where you got your code definition, but the XJ8 has a number of codes that are very different from the generic ones the reader spews out. the code you have is actually a CAN bus error,. Most of the time, I BELIEVE that these are artifacts of connecting the reader, especially if no other codes present. So your Fail safe may or may not be related. RP comes from a lot od sources, and it can be very frustrating finding it. I would not yet go on a CAN bus hunt until I had more evidence/
Is the RP intermittent, or constant? If it is constant, a scanner will probably find a pending code.

The code is correct. I triple checked it.
So what is my problem. I think it is the fuel pump went out. XK8 2002 is almost 125K miles and never had the fuel pump serviced. I am hoping on a technician diagnose the problem. I will get a new thread created for the P1642 with the same error going.
Cheers.

OK, lets try this again... WHERE did you "triple check" your code? Was it a JAGUAR source? You are in the XJ8 forum section. I do not believe the XK is different, but the code you posted is the CAN bus on an X-308. Use the link Jim gave you to get to the Jaguar manual so you can begin by having the right code.
