NO - the cap conceals the recessed valve. You will not lose air by removing the cap.

To inflate the tyre, you need to screw in a valve extension:



This is on my Sepang but other split rims are similar.

Even though I have the complete original leather pouch kit with the two valve extensions and one spare valve cap, I just picked up 4 each of the caps and extensions because it seems they are becoming scarce. I found original BBS parts on eBay by searching for BBS valve stem adapters and BBS valve stem caps.
