That is a little bit scary. I had no idea they salvaged for so much!

At least they are mounted high up and much harder to cut out. Cat thefts seem to be on my local news all the time. Thinking of buying a parts car for my two XJ8s. Knowing what I can sell the cats for factors into the calculation.

Gonna have to remember this as my daughter's Saturn likely will need a new cat before she can get her next sticker. Might help cover the cost of the new parts.

Do you think a 5% commission to me is fair?

I am unsure how they can offer that price. Ebay lists a brand-new Walker for Jaguars for $140 each.
Even the slip-fit ones are only slightly over $400 with a 5-year warranty.

I wondered about the same. The elements used are rhodium, paladium and platinum. Rhodium is by far the most expensive at $15,000 per ounce. Back 20 years ago it was $500 per ounce. Paladium and plantinum have gone up but no where near the same. I'm guessing they are now using less rhodium. Just a theory.

I am glad the cats are not easy to get to on our cars.

Good to know. No kittens is the way for boosted cars.

LOL....its probably why the recycle gives so much, they also give for the steel weight content. I remember mine having some heft to them.

There is no inspection in TN. ... so no cats are a definite option.

Oh yes, its been going on for awhile. People go in to go shopping and come out to a hell of a noise when they start the car up. Same goes for the street parkers.
I know you'll be so surprised to know that a number of the gangs are from the Mexican Cartels doing this. I'll bet they aren't vaccinated for COVID either after coming across the border, ...the heathens.

It seems as though our cars are low enough that thieves do not have easy access. That would not
prevent a well-equipped thief from using a jack to gain access, but such theft is usually all about getting
the goods quickly. That is why it seems trucks are a primary target... they are high off the ground.

Yep, they simply use a sawzall and hack and wack. People are pulling into shops to figure out what the issue is with the noise under acceleration. Only to be told the thieves failed and only managed to cut part way through the tubing and now its just a nasty leak.
