Default Some electronics related questions

Greetings,

My car is a 1998 VPD North American spec. I've searched the web but I'm not having much luck finding solid answers so I figured it is time to post here. Neither of the cig lighters work in the car. It isn't the element because my radar detector doesn't work when plugged in. Does anyone think it is a fuse and if not, where do you buy your replacement parts? I've seen plenty of generic items but nearly all items have some need for minor modifications. I don't want to do that and it would be ideal to replace the socket and the element with genuine parts.

The second question has to do with an integrated phone but not really. In the 90's many high-end cars had phones of course and some had a handset that mounted flush in the armrest. BMW 7 and 8 series come to mind. My car has everything for a phone but the phone itself. The real question is, did any of these 98-2003 cars come with such a handset? I'm asking not because I want to use one but because I think it would be a good place to mount my sat. radio. If not it is getting hidden under the armrest in the storage area.

In the 98 XJ, both cigar lighters share fuse #14, 25A, in the Right Hand Heelboard fuse box - Remove the kick plate just below the right side of the rear seat - it's in there. You can download the full electrical diagrams for your car here:

The connections for a phone exist under the center console storage compartment - there are many posts here describing how to connect a bluetooth adapter (Motorola T605, for example) to allow your bluetooth enabled cell phone to operate with the stereo - hear phone calls thru the speakers and speak thru an onboard mic, with phone calls muting the stereo, etc. Some of the posts also describe how to connect an AUX input, allowing your sat radio or iPod to be heard through the stereo.

Search in the forum for 'bluetooth' and and 'aux input' you'll find a bunch. I have done both of these mod and they work perfectly.

One of the best references on BOTH subjects is this one from Jim Roal:

Thanks for the reply. I didn't write my second question very well. I do know about that info. What I was looking for is if any of the cars of this vintage had a phone handset built in to the arm rest.
