Some weird transmission moments
Has anyone has this happen to them?
My transmission works perfectly except for.
When I hit a steep hill, (not a bump but more like a mountain climb)
My transmission seems to get stuck in 3rd gear and wont shift out,
It will hold the gear, longer than it should
When I hit flat ground it will shift up again (once it didn't and I shut it on and off)
I have a feeling a sensor in my transmission is being flooded by the steep incline and it attempting to protect itself from some type of damage.
anyone had anything similar happen? it functions perfectly normally the rest of the time

Might sound silly, but have you tried a hard reset? Normally your symptoms wouldn't cause me to ask since your thinking sounds much more logical. However... in mine, I would randomly get issues where I would go into sport mode and get on it, and then I'd get stuck in 2nd gear until I stopped, and turned the car off and on again. Sometimes with a trans fault light, sometimes without. And curious as it seemed, after I hard reset it a while back trying to diagnose a window hiccup, it's never done it since. Coincidence is likely, but for the few minutes it takes, it couldn't hurt.
Aside form that, I have no clue, I'm not much of a transmission expert in the slightest sense.

Not a problem, I will introduce myself.
I had written a longer post and deleted it which had that information,
My car is a 1998 xj8
I changed the transmission fluid a little while ago with a esso 71441 equivalent,
I laser leveled the car off the trim line and warmed it up and had it running while filling and checked it 3 times.
I did a hard reset and it helped
It still acts a bit wonky on steep hills,
10% grade at a slower speeds it wont shift out from third,
It has no other problems, I can put the pedal to the floor, it shifts perfectly. It also shifts well at lower speeds,
It runs perfectly up smaller hills or larger hills if your already moving fast,
I checked the cooler and it seems to be fine,
I may change the fluid to the real esso rather than equivalent
