Default sound proofing the boot

Hi, a recent article in Jaguar World magazine was on soundproofing the boot of an S Type, just wondering if anyone has tried this on an XJ8. the article showed pics of a specialist installing the sound deadening but its very easy to do yourself. If anyone has done this are there improvements?

Nothing noticeable when completed in the boot. Focus would instead, be on doors and floor. I've done neither doors or floor.

Thanks,
Matt

Having owned both an S type and two extra eggs ("Siwi, for cwist sake, what's wong with you?" 'XJ8'), the XJ8 already is better soundproofed.

I doubt if it will make much difference, as the trunk is already reasonably insulated, and there is a seat, soundproofing, and a bulkhead between the trunk and passenger compartment.

It might be worth adding some underneath the rear shelf.

I'd second the doors. They are very close to you, so any noise penetration will be noticeable.

I've just soundproofed my 2013 Passat TDI. Butyl mat and neoprene foam under the carpets, and the entire trunk and parcel shelf. My goal is to make it as quiet as the XJR. It's close now. Trouble is, now the wind noise is much more noticeable!

The doors are next.

If your boot is making so much noise that you are thinking of insulating it...

1- check the spare wheel/tool kit are secure.

2-let the wife out, and let her ride up front with you.

3-check the exhaust mountings.

only complaint i have is a loud banging sound when going over rough road, manhole covers etc. but i think that may be rear shocks. insulating the trunk was just a project to keep me busy that i was looking at but not going to bother.

changing from distant thumping to up close droning is not much of an improvement
