Sport mode concern

Sport mode concern
Today, on my drive to work, it happened for the second time....
I was stuck behind someone doing about 45 in a 55 zone, so I put the car into sport mode to pass them, push the accelerator pedal too the floor, and go, I get up to about 73, the car jerked real hard, and then continued to accelerate until I was in front of him (doing about 80 and coasted to 60).
This is the second time it has happened, the engine wasn't all the way up to operating temp, but I noticed when it happened, I saw the cluster flash "restricted performance" very briefly. Haven't checked for codes yet, as far as I know the PRV in the valve body is original, could this be linked or could it potentially be a separate issue? It seems like it jerks when the car had a misfire on one cylinder (you'd give it the beans and it would jerk real hard).
The PRV is going to be replaced in the next couple of weeks. I am just concerned about this issue, especially if it isn't related to the PRV.
Thanks for any info in advance.

My XJR is always in sport mode ... unless snow on the ground.
Sport changes the shift points -- if may have dropped a gear when you put it in sport an again with the accelerator.
Regardless of the setting -- the car is going to move when you hit the gas. Not sure your doing anything positive going to sport.
I'm sure the transmission would rather not being doing it.

It hesitates and jerks really harsh (never done it before in over a year of driving the car) I know the kick down isn't what it use to be, so, I am not sure what the issue is, but I don't like leaving it in sport mode anymore, simply because it's harsher on the trans, and I don't want to have to put in a new trans yet! Haha
