Default Starter motor

Hi!

Having some problem starting my XJR -98. It isnt completly dead everything is at it should except the engine dosent fire up. Both battery and spark plugs are new. I suspect its the starter motor who needs some attention. Bought this at ebay and hope it will solve the problem

JAGUAR XJ8 - XJR & XK8 - XKR STARTER MOTOR REPAIR KIT on eBay (end time 25-Jun-11 14:17:30 BST)

My question is. Where is the starter motor located? Anyone have pictures?

if looking at the front of the car its located on the left hand side. If looking underneath on this side, it's located forward of the catalytic converter.

hello guys im new to this but here goes

i have a jaguar xjr 4.2 supercharged.

i had it stood for 3 years as i brought a new jag, i came to start it about 15 months ago and it was just turning over not fireing. but it was sparking as i squirted minimal amout of easy start so i new it was fireing,

then i left it for another year didnt try to start it just straight away i had the tank out and fuel pumps cleaned 1 of the pipes had come off top of fuel pump, so i assumed this was problem, put it all back together , come to start it and nothing not even clicking, ignition comes on, i had vault tested on starter and no power there either.

also wiper dont work squirter s dont work lights dont work, i have engine check light on and another light but i dont no what it is a bit like a bulb with a line through it,

so i dont no if ive done something wrong or if it was like this before i even took tank out., i wish i had tried it again before i pulled the tank out.,

im baffled on this 1 out of ideas i hope its not time for scrap yard,

appreciate any replies thanx jamie

is it 4.2 or 4.0? which model? x308 or x350? What year is it?

First off, fit a fully charged and fresh battery 12.5V plus.

After 4 years of non use, I think you've to chase and clean contacts.

There's an ignition relay you can swap. You'll need a wiring diagram to locate the fuses and relays on the ignition side, have a look in the sticky post at the top of the forum.

In order to jar the brushes loose on the starter, can you reach it under the passenger side door or does the car need to be jacked up? I can't get to the damn starter to give it some love!!

Where is it exactly, anyone know?

This is wrong thread, don't know how to delete ... it's an XKR, but if you know, please let me know, I'll check other threads too!

THANKS!

Default spark but no start

read somewhere that the throttle body sticks allowing the engine to flood. this happened to my wifes jag. it suggested that the best cure was to fully charge the battery, floor the accelerator (this shuts off the fuel) then turn it over until it starts....worked for me!!
