Default Steering rack leak

Noticed that my steering rack boot was filled with power steering fluid..
I bought a second hand dry rack at a Jaguar salvage over the phone i ,asked for a late 2002 rack .

Now i wonder are there any differences in the xj8/XJR steering racks i have a 2001/2002 XJR 100..?

i just received the rebuilt rack over eBay 200 dollars .will install this weekend

i wouldn't suggest to buy any used mechanical parts as learned as few lessons in the past on cars. you are paying the labor for installation, what if the used part didn't work because it has some age on it already.i only buy used body parts.

The steering rack got replaced with a 2002 rack ,the rack is dry and works good hope it stays that way .

Have to take the steering wheel of and reset the steering wheel in the middle position ,and than have an alignment .

I hope you are near centered, since on this car there is more to it than simply centering the steering wheel. Remember, there is a "clockspring" carrying circuits, including the airbag to the steering wheel.

I got the rack without the steering shaft coupler , that made it difficult to get it right .

The 20" inch wheels dont rub the wheel wells when full lock left and right ,and the cat drives straight with minimal pull to the left ,i have that aligned only problem the steering wheel is 25% turned to the right.

I try to find the procedure getting the bolts lose behind the steering wheel ,you have to turn the wheel to get to them ..and the battery disconected..

I would also suggest yo get hold of a bottle of LUCAS
Power Steering rejuvenating fluid...this stuff is excellent
and will help prolong the service life of the rack.
Suck out the old oil....warm the Lucas bottle in hot water
and pour into p/s resovoir and top up with Dexron111.

Easy to do ,important not forget anything.

Do the fluid treatment but later when i get that stuff.

The steering wheel sits perfect now ,alignment tommorow.

Good to go mate;o)
easy when you know how.
If you just dive into it, there are a couple of subtle little traps
for the uninitiated ;o]
