steering wheel motor noise

Hey guys, so the steering wheel motor is making a funky noise when it fully recedes back into the steering column. I don't really know how else to describe it other than a repeated 'revving' type of noise once it has retracted to its location in the column. Any clue what this could be? A warning possibly?

The column tilt/reach mechanism has a history of failure of a cable between the drive motor and the movement gearing. It is a little 4" cable much like a speedometer cable. Either the cable fails and it is replaceable or the nylon connectors that the cable plugs into on each end strips out and that requires a complete column replacement. Gotta take it apart for the good/bad news.

Sounds like the feedback pot (position sensor) does NOT see the fully retracted position and wants the motor to keep going.
Either that has caused the failure or the end is never reached and the pot needs to see full travel.
For cost savings TURN THE AUTO SWITCH TO 'OFF' and go on with your life.
