Does anyone know why the steering wheel would always come out sticky after cleaning and conditioning.I've tried several different leather cleaners/conditioners always with the same result . . . a sticky wheel. Leather appears to be in excellent shape otherwise, no discoloration or scuffs. i will try posting this in the detailing section as well. thanks

Steven,
I have deviated from other cleaning practices for leather when it comes to steering wheels and used a gentle waterless hand cleaner with lots of lanolin and a hand/nail brush to work all the crud and goo out of the leather and let the lanolin recondition the leather. Use one that liquifies easy, that you can use on your hands and leave on for ten minutes or so without burning that does not have any grit to it or chlorine smell.
Under another post I saw a good cleaning procedure described involving using the recommended cleaner and finish for Rolls which I will probably try to bring smell back and I will try on wheel as well as it is an excellant procedure to clean very throuroughly first, then condition and finish but the above works great to break that sticky feeling. If I used the Rolls treatment, I would be inclined to leave the finish off. Your hands usually will produce sufficient oil to keep most leather supple, just not clean and oil is not spread around well.
