Still looking for a 2001-2003 VDP SUPER V8
It's almost impossible to find a low miles 2001/2003 VDP Superv8 so I may just buy a regular VDP
Here is my question. Does the regular VDP also has the timing chain issue or is it an issue only related to the Supercharged engine?
I was also looking at XK8 or XKR and found XKR2002 but it will need the timing chain replaced the car has 60 k

All early 4.0 Jaguar V8s had the same plastic timing chain tensioner issues, SC or not. However I believe Jaguar uprated to metal tensioners in August 2001 so an '02 or '03 should not have these issues. Either way they are not too bad to swap out if you have plastic. I don't believe there were any unusual issues with the timing chain itself.

+1 to anduha...its the tensioners, not the chains. The chains do get regular wear and can "stretch" over time. I know my replacements were very tight. But, to add to that, and this is from Bob... "The later engine (engine SN 0108130000 ONWARD) will have the Morse style silent running chains". The later engine being '02-03.
