Default Stupid question- what is this and how to remove it safely

Idk what this leaky thing is or how to remove it safely.

should I replace them? Or maybe it’s just an o-ring?

im tired of breaking things… it looks like a slotted screw driver may fit into the side of it. But no one has ever called me a gentle giant.

I don’t know what it is..l so don’t know what to search for.

I need to remove the valve covers to replace the plug tube seals while doing the octopus.

Thanks!

VVT actuator. There is a SEAL (lip seal) and the wire harness connector comes off the end. They are known to snap-off the retainer clip because of engine heat and brittle plastic.

If the connector breaks, I just put a dab of RTV on the connector when reinstalling it.

I remove the cam cover to replace all the gaskets/seals and isolators at one time. People have reported that the seal can be 'pried-up' and replaced.

Variable valve timing (VVT) helps to provide smoother idling and increased power delivery
for everyday driving., It also provides improved fuel economy, and superior emissions control.
However,in order to achieve all of these tasks, your VVT system requires a number of different
components including the variable valve timing solenoid. The VVT solenoid is responsible for
changing the position of the camshafts in the engine. It operates by oil pressure, and can either
advance or retard cam position to provide the right performance from the engine. Each camshaft
is equipped with a VVT solenoid, which is capable of altering the supply of oil pressure to the
camshaft depending on the speed and load of the engine. If the VVT solenoid is not working
properly, the Check Engine light will come on and your engine will perform noticeably worse.

Thanks motorcarmqn and randy!

and I even learned something!

I’ll just leave it alone, sounds like it’s a bad thing to break!
