Submersible fuel line

Submersible fuel line
I am replacing the fuel pumps.and the fuel lines look like they need replacing as well. I have not been able to find a part number, but I can buy submersible fuel line. Wow, is it expensive! Most of the ads sell small pieces a few inches long, but this XJ8 uses a line from the pump to the top of the tank. Since it is an SC, it needs two pumps and two lines. Seems to me a solid steel line would be better than the rubber. Anyone.ever make that mod? Where is the best source for the submersible line?

I got two feet of the hose. I used about 3” of it to connect the new brass adapter to the bottom of the tank and the rest to connect to the pumps. I knew that I was going to be messing with a plastic tee and would’ve compromised it so I just ditched it and got the brass one so I’d never have to go in it again. I used 2 hose clamps at every connection. It was likely overkill but, I didn’t feel like messing with it again. Keep in mind the prices were from last year. $30 a foot today.

So I just remembered something.... the factory plastic Y vs the brass one has different angles than the Y. The brass has equally spaced ports between the 3 holes vs the Y does not. I struggled with the brass because of the difference between the 2 were enough that I really needed more fuel line but I got it to work. I don’t know how to explain it easily but I see it in my head. If you’ve already ordered the brass, at least you have it on hand just in case you break the factory Y. My advice if you want to replace it all is to use the 2 feet from Amazon between the brass and pumps alone. Get the short hose that goes to the very bottom of the tank and go to the store and buy that exact length or better yet add an extra inch to that hose. If that factory hose is 3”, get a 4” length at least. When you go to do the job, you’ll understand what I was meaning.
