Default Sun Roof Question- don't Move It

Hey there! I've got a pristine 2003 XJ8, Sovereign, I had the headliner replaced and the shop neglected to do the Sun Roof and the holder for Sun Glasses. The rest of the work is great and we're discussion them doing the neglected items. However, i was thinking....

Did anyone ever make a glass replacement for this steel Sun Roof?

Maybe one with a sliding panel to cover it up? That would be cooler than what i have now....

SUNROOF = metal sliding roof panel fitted to all Jaguar sedans up to X300/X308 sedans.
MOONROOF = clear sliding roof panel fitted to X200/X202/X350/X400> sedans.

You are on your own to find/fit a clear sliding roof to your car.

Good Luck and let us know what you find.
Be sure to use 3mm (1/8) foam backed headliner material so the sliding roof panel does NOT interfere with the rest of the fabric.

Sliding roof panels don't work with thicker foam headliner material in Jaguar sedans.

Right. I know the difference between a sun and moon roof.

I've got the proper headliner material and the thickness is good. Just curious to know if anyone here knew of an aftermarket solution.

Thanks and be well.

Personally, I know of no aftermarket product being offered that has glass and it would seem to be
a little problematic given that the interior material panel slides WITH the sunroof.

Thanks, Randy. All of my cars have the Glass panels. Naturally, everything is panoramic.

I just like Glass over the Metal. I rarely have the inside panel shut.

The rear panel is what diverts water to the drains so without it you'd have leaks. You would kinda have to re-engineer the whole thing

Good point. I was trying to mentally create a glass paneled sunroof. There are a few obstacles
but it could be done.

It only has to match the shape of the metal one. Not that big a deal, given todays technology.

True, however demand would seem to be lacking.

I could swear that this discussion of going from a metal to a glass sunroof was discussed several years ago. I took a look after I posted this but I never found any solution to this. I think it would take some serious digging and access to junkyards to remotely come up with a suitable glass replacement if it all.

I was thinking more along the lines of cutting the metal, forming the lipped retainers and then purchasing
a tempered glass panel to fit and seal with rubber edging. It might be better to purchase the moonroof
from a model so equipped and work back from there.

I think there might be a better chance of finding a suitable glass sunroof panel that’s the same overall shape and graft the glass into our panel. I don’t know what our factory panels look like when stripped. I know most car makers have the 2 small bolts on either side of the sunroof panel to hold it to the tracks.
