The sunroof in my 2001 Vanden Plas has a mind of its own!
Normal operation: To press and release the sunroof switch in the open direction, and the sunroof would open. Press and release the sun roof switch in the close direction, and the sunroof would close. Push again in the close direction and the sunroof back edge would pivot up, and push the switch in the open direction, and the sunroof would properly close.
Current operation: To open the sunroof I have to press and hold the sunroof switch until the sunroof is all the way back. If I try and close the sunroof right away nothing will happen. After a period of time (30 seconds or more) I can then press the sunroof switch in the close direction, and the sunroof will start to close. If I release the switch, motion stops, and I then have to wait a period of time again before the sunroof will respond. Once I get the sun roof to close by continually hold the switch, I have to carefully time the release of the switch otherwise the sunroof will go past the fully closed position and the back edge will tilt up into the vent position.
There is obviously some kind of control module or sensor/switch setup that controls the operation of the sunroof. Is this perhaps what has failed?
I would like to get this working normally again, but have no desire to pay Jaguar labor rates to have my sunroof repaired. I am very competent mechanically and electrically, but don't feel like digging into this blindly especially when one of you fellow enthusiasts may have already dealt with a similar problem.
Any assistance with this will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Badger
