superceded wiper arms?

For model years 1998-2003, JTIS says that removing the wiper arm involves removing a cap over the stud nut. The operation description shows a "+" beside the nut removal step as if it it a note to an alternate procedure. But of course, it goes nowhere.
However, I have a wiper arm that has no cap as described in JTIS. Or at least not one that can be felt with a finger nail or seen.
What it does have is a small hole on the side of the nut area diametrically opposite the blade.
Is there a release pin or set screw accessed through the hole?
