Default Suspension fault

I recently got a suspension fault message on my Xjr -99 with adaptive cats suspension. The Obd code reader that I have shows nine fault codes with the Body processer module and one of them is Scp vehicle speed signal - invalid or missing signal. I have checked the speed signal cables that are behind each wheel and they looked ok..

I believe the speed sensor comes through the cluster by way of transmission. CATS is an add on module. It uses the speed to switch over the shocks. My memory was the USA got CATS for the 100 in 2001 and then the XJR's for 02.

The CATS system is basically stand alone. The input from the speed sensor is only to activate the CATS when the speed is more than some 5 mph. Thereafter, the CATS module receives signals only from the accelerometers. It stiffens the suspension on harder cornering (to reduce roll) and also on harder breaking to reduce the "nose dive".

At the back they are under the rear seat. I do not know where the front ones are, hopefully someone will provide the info.

You will have to take the shock/spring assembly out.

One of the rear shocks were bad so I had the car in for service and they replaced both rear shocks but the warning message is still there. How do I reset the fault message ?

Were the new shocks CATS compatible? If not, you won't be able to get rid of the warning message. If the shocks were CATS compatible and the electrical connectors were properly connected, there may be a problem with a shock or the wiring harness or connector.

If your receipt shows the brand and model of the shocks you can probably look up whether they are CATS enabled. The only ones I know of that work with CATS are made by Bilstein.

Cheers,

Don

I bought used original cats shocks. Do the warning light automatically go away when the problem is fixed or do you have to reset the fault message ?

You need to have a little drive, that's how I do it anyway.
Maybe only a 1/4 mile and it'll reset.
Otherwise you'll be there banging your head thinking you've done everything possible but nothing works. Just drive it :-)
