I have the exact same sound coming from the front end of my car. It has been doing it for a couple years. I looked up under it today with the knowledge gained in this thread and I think this is the problem with mine.

While pushing up and down on the car at the fender and looking underneath I can see slight play in the sway bar bushings and at the same time hear a corresponding sound. I will replace them and report back.

I installed the KYB's on the rear. Some of the members here feel they are a little too firm but I like them. I installed Monroes on the front and like the feel of them also. Takes some time and PATIENCE on the rear. The main thing I would stress is to get the shock bolts good and tight and be sure to locktite the nuts. I really feel that the main problem on my rear shocks was that the upper nuts backed off slightly causing a thumping sound. The old shocks I removed seemed to be in good condition.

I never did find the cause of the thumping sound, like loose lumber in the trunk. Shocks are still good. Changed those bushings on top of the shocks.

Suspension noise gone in my car. Jag Genious was right on the money. But, my local Jag dealership didn't have the sway bar bushings and they wanted $18 each for them. I removed my old ones and cleaned the bushing really well with silicone grease. I then applied several coats of paint to the brackets. The paint makes the bushings fit tighter. I then used white lithium grease on the inside of the bushings when I installed them. The noise is completely gone.
