Swapping side mirrors?

I had a neighbor down the street hit my car mirror to mirror. They are going to buy me a new one so I've been trying to research used mirrors. I can't find a used one in my color (grey) so I was thinking about swapping out for the chrome covered VDP mirrors.
My '02 XJ Sport to the best of my knowledge does not have memory or heat. I suspect the VDP's have both. If I can't do a direct plug and play swap I will not even bother.
I wasn't planning on going to a body shop because I need to take my door apart anyways to fix the lock. I thought I would save them the money and me the headache of taking it somewhere.
I've searched around and find very little info on mirrors. Thoughts?

Yes, you could easily buy two of the chrome ones off eBay. Replace the broken mirror and switch out the chrome cover on the other side. Keep the base with mechanism for a spare.
Also, you can buy ANY colored one off eBay and then order a pair of chrome covers from one of the many sites (Mina Gallery for example).
On the heated question, maybe another member could comment on which models had heated mirrors or how one can tell.
Good luck,

A similar thing happened to me (X308.) I bought a cheap replacement on ebay, then as mine was an electrically folding/heated mirror, I changed the body of the cheap one onto the broken one. Worked a treat, and total cost was £25 GBP instead of the several hundred a new replacement would have cost. Might be worth a try.

Don't the ones with heated mirrors have the "heat wave icon" on the lower edge of the mirror? I thought they did, but I could be conflating one car's mirror with another's in this case.
There's also a question that would surround the electrical connections for the mirror if it is electrochromic dimming, which I thought was introduced on the 2001 cars, but again, I could be mistaken on that, too.
Corrections gladly received.
