tailpipe finisher set screw head stripped
I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to remove the set screws that hold the tailpipe finishers to the tailpipes. I ruined the head of the set screw on one side and stopped. The heat must've galled the threads.
The tip isn't loose, but I would like to get the screws out and replace them using anti-sieze the next time. I wanted the tips off to polish them thoroughly, and should've left them alone.
Thank you in advance, Louis

Take a Dremel tool with a narrow cutting wheel and grind a slot in the screw. Then you may be able to remove it with a flat screwdriver blade and maybe an impact driver or air impact tool. Some heat, a torch used judiciously, might help too.
FWIW, my right one has a torx bit broken off in it. Happened when I first got the car. I had the same idea that you did to polish them off the car. They look very nice polished with them on the car, lol.

Hi
This what I do whenever I get a screw or bolt that the head is stripped and rusted in:
I start with a small diameter drill bit and try to first drill enough of the head for the head to fall off. Then I am able to see diameter of the rest of the screw or bolt and the appropiate size drill bit to remove the rest of it.
