They are old. You should change them.

So they dont look bad to you just old? What I was thinking is, should I leave the car sit there with covers loose until the parts get here or is it safe to put it all back on so it can be driven and then install them later, like a few weeks from now or earlier. Is the oring for the covers going to be reuseable, as long as I dont use rtv?

After closer examination I can see where the chain has wore two small grooves in the plastic so they need to be changed I guess. Are the primary ones going to be the same way? Should I just wait and do the whole kit and caboodle, primary and secondaries?

Should I replace the chains as well. FJT, how long do you think they would last they way they look now?

cud last .. a couple weeks cud last a month.. i wud do the whole thing.. if you leave it any longer .. parts will get expensive..and then the secondary tensioners plastic will come off and pieces will float around in your oil pan.. and the secondary chain will rub metal to metal on the tensioners.. until the chain snaps..

I looked at that article on replacing the timing chains that is posted elsewhere one here and they mention that there is a special tool to get the damper off? Where can I get that?

please see my thread from earlier this year, it may help you decide what you need to do

i will add, that you can NOT fully determine the condition of the upper tensioners without removing them, when new they are white, yours are orange like mine were, and need to be changed, especially as you have gone this far

tensioner change thread

hope this helps

Lol I always need to torch the bolt. Would be ok if I took out radiator, but I prefer to leave cooling system intact.

Brake buster, that is a excellent job. I have stepped up doing mine from maybe later, to get it done now. Did you just change the secondary tensioners?
