Default Tensioners

OK guys - here is what jag charged me for what looks like secondary tensioner changes only

1. C2A1512 (X1) $113.88 (SECONDARY TENSIONER)
2. C2A1511 (X1) $113.88 (SECONDARY TENSIONER)
3. AJ88400 - GASKET - CAMSHAFT - $40.86
4. AJ82856 - SEAL - VALVE (X2) - $68.10
5. AJ87206 - SEAL SPARK PLUG (X8) - $78.56
6. AJ87242 - SEAL - CENTER (X4) - $36.32
7. AJ88285 - GASKET - CAMSHAFT - $37.39

LABOR - $540.00

TOTAL - $1028.99 (SHOULD I BE WORRIED THAT THEY DID NOT REPLACE THE PRIMARY TENSIONERS??) AREN'T THEY PLASTIC ALSO?? WOULD IT NOT HAVE MADE SENSE TO REPLACE THEM ALL?? I CAN'T SEE THE LOGIC IN REPLACING 2 SETS OF THE 4 SETS IN THE ENGINE - DO THE PRIMARY TENSIONERS NEVER FAIL??

LET ME KNOW GUYS

CHEERS

Default RE: Tensioners

A simple search in the forum would relieve most of these questions being asked on this site anymore. Most of the techs on the site don't post anymore.

https://www.jaguarforums.com/m_51628/tm.htm

That's my experience back earlier this year, I suggest checking it out. Youwould have read that you could have bought the parts seperately, forhalf the price.I see they didn't change your secondary chains either, just tensioners alone (which were $45+ overpriced btw at ***********) my whole experience wasjust under $700for the whole deal, all 4 tensioners.

More simple searching would have told you that the primaries never really go bad, nor the chains. Secondary only, nothing wrong with doing them all if you want to spend the extra $ (not worth it on these old cars anymore, value around$6k-7k for mint 98-99)

I don't drive the 98 anymore, 04+ much better construction and design all around in my opinion, i'm even getting used to the ford look. Goodluck dude, try checking out the search for quick answers.

Be glad they did not needto replace the lowers, this requires removal of the front cover, more than doubling the labor costs. These parts rarely fail, don't worry.

I think it wise to do the primary tensioners, but they are also correct that it would have doubled the price.

Yeah if you want to spend the $ do them both, but it won't be needed. Do the secondary chains for sure!!! a must
