Thermostat question

I have read several posts regarding the T-stat's in our X308’s being prone to failure, since I am a worry wart about my car, I was wondering if I could just remove the T-stat or maybe modify it by drilling a few holes in the outer ring as a precautionary measure.
I just purchased the aluminum Thermostat housing kit from Welsh Enterprises which comes with a new T-stat, please let me know your thoughts, Thanks.

No, don't do that. A thermostats function is to warm up an engine as quickly as possible and then let a properly functioning cooling system do its job. Pro longing the warm up period, increases emissions, wastes gas and may lead to premature cat failure. Just thow in a new thermostat once every two years. It's been my experience that stat failure results in the stat not closing properly not the other way around.
