Default Time for some work on my 1998 xj8

I have a 1998 xj8 I have replaced all the belts and hoses. I want to do a tune up on it what do I need to know about spark plug replacement. I also want to replace the radiator but it seems like the he are about 750 bucks... Ouch. Any one know where I can find this cheaper as well as instruction on replacing the steering wheel reach motor and door handle gaskets.

I know the xk8-R section has many posts on the reach motor and door handle gaskets. I can't recall for sure if the xj8s did as well, but if not...they should be very similar to the xk area. Try the advanced search, or check the FAQ thread at the very top of the xk8-xkr subforum. We've linked many good instructional threads, probably is there on the list. G'luck!

If you want a new one, well, can't help you there. If you want a salvaged unit, look in the vendor section of this forum, find SPP out of California, that outfit has a great selection of salvaged cars to pick between. What I have seen so far is parts prices in line with other salvage places. Ask them about a short term warranty on used parts, I mean...just to make sure the new-old radiator doesn't leak upon install, right? Send a PM to the to the contact and I bet you'll hear back within 1 business day.

The first repair I ever did on my 96 XJ6 VDP was to fix the reach and tilt motors. I found the spring type extenders were either unwound or broken. If I remember correctly, they were easily reachable after pulling the cover (came off in 2 pieces), and moving the reach motors out of the way.
I got replacements from the local auto-wreckers and they cost me $20. I pulled them for the place since I already knew how to do it and even brought my own tools. Took a whole 10 minutes to pull them.
Pull yours first to make sure it is the springs and not the square shaft or motor (might as well replace the motor if it's that).

Default Found on Radiator on Ebay - Lincoln LS says fits XJ8

Ebay seller is pro radiator (ships from Los Angles CA) - has 98% customer rating.
Radiator listed for Lincoln LS 2000-2005 all models. Buy-it now price $32.91 plus $29.91 shipping (total $60). Says it fits 1998 Jaguar XJ8 models.
Here is the website link:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/00-01...item27b164f72e

Another internet seller is genesis auto parts in California - has a 9 out of 10 rating with customers per bizrate.com. I called them this morning. They confirmed that the Radiator for the Lincoln LS (2000-2005) is the same part number they stock for the 1998 Jaguar XJ8. This radiator is exact fit and interchangable with the Lincoln and the Jaguar.
Their price is $102.68 plus shipping. I used my zipcode 06410 and got $15 for ground (4 to 5 days) and $40 for fedex (3 to 4 days).
Here is the website link:

Someday our Jaguar XJ8 may need a replacement radiator, but I hope it will be years away from now. We had to replace all timing chains & tensioners and had to rebuild the transmission in the last 3 months.

That is one of the reasons I joined this forum. To help other Jaguar owners whenever I can for issues they put on this forum.
A tip: you need to call the sellers and ask about the parts quality, warantees, customer approval rating, exact fit, etc.

Default Reach motor information on Jaguar Clubs of NA

Jaguar Clubs of North America (JCNA) has information pertaining to the reach motor (Jagbits may have some used ones for sale) and tilt motor.
Here is the webpage link:
http://www.jcna.com/forums/view.php?...0&Vthread=5917

The reach motor is a part# JLM12187 (used to telescope). The tilt motor is part# JLM20194 ( and is obviously used to tilt the steering wheel).
Call Jagbits for prices of used parts they might have.

I checked out prices for new reach motor - one is a discount Jaguar dealer (gaudin jaguar parts) List price $415, discounted price $337.19,

Motor cars Ltd - price is $398.92 and JagBits - price is $427.04.

Maybe your best bet is to try some of the online car parts recylcers. I had good luck finding the rear light assembly for the driver side (at a reasonable price) when my wife had an accident with the Jag and the post in the parking lot at her workplace.

Hi Cadillac
Two of the vendors (Gaudin Jaguar Parts and Motor Cars Ltd) listed in my earlier post are our vendors.
Will members get a discounted price when they call sponsor vendors?

If I can get a better price from one of our vendors, I would certainly buy the parts from them. They are the ones who support this forum financially.

As we all know any part that has the Jaguar name is going to be expensive. In this economy you have to shop around to get the best price available.

Gaudin Jaguar Parts (JPam Porsche Jaguar Parts) was the only one that is our vendor that had a pricing lower than the retail price (on their website) for the items I researched. To be fair I will call the 3 vendors that I found when I searched the vendor forum for parts vendors (JPam Porsche, Jaguar Plano - Park Place and Motor Cars Ltd). Do we have a simple list of our vendors somewhere on the forum?

^ Please note.

Latest vendors added to the site -

Specialised Parts Planet
Duckworthparts
NalleyJaguar
Jpam parts
Nameless Performance
Tire Rack
Treadepot

All of the above offer excellent service, usually with some discount / free shipping etc for forum members, as well as specials to look out for from time to time.

Check out the Vendor directory at the top, for contact details etc.

What forum is the vendor directory located in? I went to the vendor threads forum and there are no posts listed there. Then I did a search on the vendor threads forum for parts vendors. The search gave me the posts that lead me to the 3 vendors names I used.

Hmm, if you look at the menu bar at the top of the any forum page you will see Vendor Directory in between Garage and Log Out. (a black horizontal bar with white writing).

The vendor forum is where Vendors can make any posts, to offer services, advice, parts etc.

Wow, does the Lincoln radiator fit XJ8 models later than 1998. It might fit my 2000 MY?
Does it include the transmission cooler. I know that some don't.

Default Here are radiator listings from Genesis website

They both have the same mfg part number 2256A (last 5 digits of Genesis part number). Genesis sales rep said that 2256A is used to fill all the orders for the Lincoln LS and Jaguar XJ8 models. They have 100 of these radiators in stock. Sorry about the quality of these images. If you are viewing Internet Explorer, increase the screen magnifier from 100% to 125% it is located on the right side of the bottom bar on the browser screen (click on the "+" just left of the 100%).

Look at the dimensions:

This is a snapshoot of Pro Radiator on Ebay offering for Lincoln LS Radiator says fits 2009 Jaguar XJ8. Looks like this radiator fits 1998 to 2009 Jaguar XJ8 models.
