Default timing chain question

The front main seal was leaking so I decided to go ahead and pull the front cover and replace the primaries guides while I had to have the pulley off anyway (secondaries done many years ago). I followed the JTIS instructions to zip tie the chains so they wouldn't come off the sprockets. Everything seemed to go according to plan. Put everything back together and the engine will spin over but won't start. Fearing that the chains had somehow slipped and I hadn't noticed, I took the valve covers off and turned the engine around by hand till the D shaped hole in the flex plate was aligned with the crank position sensor (altho I don't have the actual pin but I can see that its aligned) and yes, the flats of the camshafts are parallel too. Is that sufficient evidence that the chains did not slip? I read that's the orientation if you were setting up the timing and just assumed that it remains that way. Trying to figure out what I did wrong, obviously double and triple-checking all the connections, etc.

+1 to Bob's suggestion...and to add...
Do you have fuel pressure? ....wouldn't doubt the possibility of a fuel pump failure.
Have you checked the CPS wiring for faults?
What about the MAF (is itold or new?)....you can disconnect it and the ECU will go into a default to allow the engine to run, barring checking the other scenarios first.

I did push the schrader valve a few minutes after trying to start the car and some fuel trickled out, but I don't have the right adapter to test for pressure. Will have to order one I guess. Also plugged in the scanner but there are no stored codes. The car hadn't been started since I think it was sometime in January that I shuffled cars around to put the project on the back burner. Will check the CPS and MAF tomorrow. Bore wash was one of my thoughts and I did try starting it with the accelerator to the floor, but no dice.
