Timing chain rattle only under wide open throttle...
Obviously the only way to be 100% is to do everything (all tensioners, guides and new chains). But for now im at 145k miles and am getting some rattling only above 3500rpm when wide open... seems to be only on the drivers side too. Its probably been doing it since I bought it at 140k and have just noticed it. Am I pressing my luck even driving it at all? This is my daily driver... TIA for any suggestions.
Could it possibly be something else im hearing? I talked to someone saying to spin the crank pulley back and forth and check for play that way...good idea?

Would you trust a masterlink on a timing chain?

I would suspect a serpentine belt tensioner or a compressor bearing before the cam tensioners at high rpm's.
Yes, if you do not have metal chain tensioners you are living on borrowed time and at 140k miles a complete job is probably in order.
No, I would not put a master link on a car of mine because I am capable of pulling the front of the engine off as a hobby but a lot of people do. For more than reliability issues no Jaguar dealer would either.

I've been paying more attention today and even lower rpm's its doing it but only under a 75% + load.. I tried it with ac on and off, same noise. Maybe ill pull off the serpentine belts while the engine is cold and take it for a quick spin and see if the sound goes away..
Maybe some pinging goin on..it has been in the 90s lately and im on 87 octane but im pretty sure it was goin on when i was running 93 a while back..
