Default Tire Width

Current Nitto Envo 255 35 19 have an overall sidewall width of 9 3/4” inflated.
Thinking about changing the tires for the season. I have some Yokohama Avid Envigor, same section
as above but the overall sidewall measures 10 3/4” uninflated.
Both tires are spec’d for 8.5 -10 rims. I have 8.5 Montreal’s..
Surprised at the width variation of about 1””. Anyone come across this before?
May have to see if they fit under the rear arches.
Current tires inflated are about the same width of the rim. Hate to think what they would look like on a 10” rim.

I'm running Michelin Pilot Sport 3 A/S on my -100. Same 255/35-19's and the sidewalls are 2+1/2" for an overall 5" diameter. My wheels (same) measure 8+3/4" inside the bead and 9+1/2" outside. One interesting note is that Tire Rack says Yokohama doesn't make a 255/35-19 in that tire, or maybe they just don't stock the 255/35-19. That sidewall diameter may fit, though; have a couple of them mounted and see what happens.

Thanks Mark,
The Avid Envigor has been discontinued but as my tires are 2017 I will give them a try.
Yokohama do list half a dozen tires in 255 35 19 and quote the overall width between 10 & 10.2”. So not as wide as the ones I have.
I’m not looking for more tread width, just more protection of the fragile rims/trim rings. Already had one damaged by a tire shop when the wheel fell over.

Hi Eric,
That makes sense on them discontinuing the tire model as it wasn't listed in the charts; had to type in the name. I've had my car for 16 years and stuff happens, so my trim rings are pretty well trashed. I think I have one left that I haven't had to beat down with the rubber mallet. I used to have two spare wheels until one day I ran over a man-hole cover and then started hearing what sounded like a jack hammer, then the dreaded whop-whop of a flat tire. Pulled over and left rear was down. Jacked it up and a four-inch ratchet extension had gone through the tire and punched a couple of holes in the rim. And it was one with a good trim ring. That one is in my storage room in case I can find a new rim and put in the center piece. Good luck in not damaging those things, but if you do, here's a link for replacements: https://www.sbwheels.store/product-p...placement-trim. One of these days I might order some of those.

Thanks Mark, I am aware of SB Wheels. Trust you have checked Marketplace. Montreal’s for sale for a few weeks to date.

I haven't checked Marketplace; haven't really been into doing the cosmetics lately as I've been going through and replacing stuff that's been on the car for 18 years and 178k miles. When I do the wheels, I'll probably use the SB stuff since they're advertised specifically for the 19" Montreals. Another spare wheel would be nice to have available, since I'm down to five usable ones and one of those is in the spare tire well.
