The intercoolers and blower top are indeed painted at the factory. Otherwise they would be raw silver aluminum

Gotta agree with that. Mine are factory stock and the hood liner has worm through on the corner of one of the letters and its shiney aluminum under they grey, plus the brake cleaner wore down to a tan primer looking base on the top plate. I'm going to get some dark pewter engine paint and blend in the top plate.

Both are aluminum, one just has an extra process done on it. Same thing with carburetors and headers. The only thing is, the more you buff, the more metal you work off and it becomes very thin.

After doing a google search on "XJR intercooler color" there's plenty on these boards on the subject, according to what I read they are definitely painted from the factory. HH, I can only think yours were stripped by a PO or Jaguar toyed with letting some through unfinished. Mine are stock and they are grey with a primer.

When I worked at the Jag dealer I had a buddy that was finishing up reinstalling the charge coolers and supercharger. He sprayed some carb cleaner to get some greasy fingerprints off and....................... The grey finish came off!!!!!!!!!!
He panicked and then just decided to pull them all off again and bead blast them. He had to go next door to the Volvo shop where the bead blaster cabinet was.
He said he got done around midnight and they looked pretty good when I saw them the next morning.
Next time he used alcohol to clean the SC and coolers.

I'll get a picture when I get home but on the advice of a forum member I used this:
https://www.amazon.com/Dupli-Color-D.../dp/B001DKRFX6
I got it for about that price local too. I'm ahppy with it, but you need to be careful since it will scratch (I did IC manifolds and V8 top plate), I put a scratch in mine putting the SC back in. I just sprayed some in a cup and a straight eyeliner brush (I work for a cosmetics company, I pay so little it's not even funny) and touched it up.
I drove the XKR since it's nice out otherwise I'd snap a pic in the parking lot.
