Default trans range selector prob

I've got error code P0705 w/ gearbox fault and restricted performance. I'm sure it's because the selector is way out of alignment. I get all the right side of the J-gate PRND but have to really move it around a lot to get to the left side. All happened because I had the console opened up and was moving the shifter out of the way of the audio unit. I inadvertently moved the shifter around and disengaged it from the plastic slider on the right side.

Now I think it doesn't know what gear it's in and mechanically the linkage doesn't line up. Is the a procedure for adjustment/alignment of the shifter?

thanks

There is such a procedure, of course. I'm sure others will reference the details. But basically, the idea is to be sure the transmission is in neutral, then adjust the linkage to be at "N." But I'm not sure which "plastic slider" you are referring to.

Thanks. The "slider" I mean is a white plastic piece to the right of the shifter. A short arm with a ball end near the bottom of the shifter engages it so that it moves along a rod as you shift gears. I think it may be attached to the shift selector sensor, a black box to the right.

Without the J-gate top plate it was possible to move the shifter left and right besides front and back. That's how I messed up; the shifter became disengaged from the "slider" and I was moving the shfter around. I must have thrown something out of synch.

Hi
Look at this other forum thread - Stuck in park (etc):

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-errors-61137/

It has a parts diagram and list of the parts in post# 15 and # 17.

Also read this forum thread:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...d-issue-45238/

Look at post# 2 - about broken gearshifter parts.
