Default transmission? ??

So I have an 01 xj8 with 80k on it. ..shifts great no noises maybe slow to engage but that's it. .besides this quirk if I'm driving. ..get hard on my brakes. .then get on throttle it will slam into gear causing a jerk and sometimes tire squeal. ..sometimes the traction will blink at me. .no check engine light or transmission codes. ..it's like it pops into neutral and then goes. ..doesn't seem to do it if I pop it into 2..haven't tried 4..doesn't matter if it's in sport mode or not. ..

Start by checking the fluid level, a nuisance if you don't have access to a lift. If your car has not had a fluid and filter change it's overdue. Use the search and check the DIY sticky.

Well I haven't checked the fluid level yet. .not easy to do living in an apartment. ..however I did just clean the maf which looked filthy. .not with oil just black grime. ..can't get it to act up sooooo hopefully that did the trick.
