Default Transmission confusion....

Hi, I'm fairly new to the forum and am trying to educate myself on the transmission on my 2001 XJ...however there are so many thread that it's getting confusing. Glad all that information is here, but there is so much when searching for transmission that it's difficult to sort it out.

Car has 105,000 miles. Transmission fluid has never been changed. Shifts smooth. Want to do preventive maintenance. I assume a transmission fluid change is in order...

A few questions:
1. What's the best fluid to use?
2. Is this one of those transmissions with the filter built into the pan?
3. Good place to source filer (or pan)
4. Procedure (or video) on web?

Thank you all for such a great forum!

You could add more words to your search terms to narrow the search results to fewer threads.

For example transmission fluid is better than just transmission.

To narrow it further, you have the ZF 5HP24 transmission. Tons of threads here. Ignore any mention of Mercedes or XJRs.
