Default Transmission Dipstick Tool

XJR 2000 turbo

Came back from vacation and saw a pool of transmission fluid on my flood.
my mechanic says he needs a transmission dipstick tool. How do you check the transmission fluid and how do you replace the fluid and what kind of fluid is needed?

thanks

Cesandman,

I've moved this question from your Intro thread to X308 forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

You need a 722.6 dipstick. Ebay has them for $16.

It's also worth checking out this aftermarket dipstick conversion kit, which was originally discussed in this thread, entitled Transmission DipStick.

The XJR has a Mercedes transmission and has a dipstick.

True, that dipstick is for the ZF transmission in the XJ8.

The XJR has a dipstick tube, but no dipstick! Strange but true. That's were the tool comes in.

For a dipstick, I use a bicycle brake cable. The hot and cold measurements can be seen in a post from Avos.

For ATF, I use Valvoline Maxlife Dex/Merc because it was listed in a Mercedes training document for the 722.6 as an approved fluid.

I'm pretty sure you have a supercharger under your hood, not a turbo, BTW. But we know what you mean.
