Default Transmission help plz!!!!

hi okay i just installed another tranny on my 2000 jaguar xj8 with another one with less miles i did the job myself. by following the steps of another post on here . the tranny with less mile was from a jaguar exactly like mine , same year in all . the only thing i havent done to complete the job is refill tranny fluid back . so before i went out and bought quarts of this expensive tranny fluid i was curious to see if i done the job right. so i put car in reverse and drive just to move a little for confirmation car wont move???!!! do yall think its cause i havent put tranny fluid back in???

Yes, the transmission needs fluid to do it's job. And you risk serious damage trying to run it without filling it first.

Hi junioramy1,

You don't have to change the torque converter (TC), but my assumption is that your old TC came out with your old transmission and your "new" salvaged transmission would have had its TC mounted inside its bell housing. Unless you intentionally kept your old TC for some reason, the natural conclusion is that you have changed the TC along with the transmission.

And as CharlzO has already mentioned, the entire transmission is hydraulically operated, so without fluid, the TC can't couple the engine to the transmission, the transmission can't engage any gears, etc.

Cheers,

Don
