Default transmission oil pan needed or just filter

Dear fellow members

I am planning to do the transmission fluid change on 2000 XJR,I have seem some people change entire oil pan or it that ok to just replace with a new filter?

You have a Mercedes W5A580 (AKA 722.6) 5 speed gearbox (5 forward and 2 reverse). The later Jaguars 2003> use the ZF6HP26 with the integral pan/filter assy.

You can change the filter and fluid and reuse your pan

Do you have any ideas how many quarts I need for the change,I dont have the dipstick also?

Looks like it takes 10 quarts to fill the transmission, torque converter and the cooling lines.

I thought it was 10 liters. It is still almost 10 quarts (9.46 quarts = 10 liters).

Ypu will not be able to change 10 qts in one cycle. I fyou use air to blow out the cooler you MIGHT get 6 or 7.

Just remembered, Ryder Fleet Products has this for $4.95/quart or so by mail order. Same Ryder as the truck people.

Unless one is doing the fluid exchange at the cooler hose like the Mercedes boys. Then having at least a dozen quarts on hand is recommended.
