Default Transmission Oil questions?

I live in Thailand and am trying to buy some transmission oil for my 2001 XJ8 3.2lt.

I read that I need to buy LT71141 which I cannot find in Phuket or Bangkok. I'm told by the suppliers that I need 'Fully Synthetic'. This sounds more like engine oil than transmission oil to me...

Is there such a thing as as Fully Synthetic Transmission oil?

Secondly: A local garage recently did a gear box oil change using ZF Lifeguard 5. They said it seemed much thicker than the oil they removed. This has made me think they used the wrong oil which is why I'm thinking having another go. Would I need to replace the filter?

Thanks in advance for any help, I'm in a world of pain dealing with these issues over here!

Yes, there is such a gearbox fluid.

Did you perform a search for information on the correct fluid and procedure for servicing the gearbox?

If you want to use ESSO 71141 then find a VW dealer and tell them you need fluid for an 01M or 01V gearbox.

The part number is G052162A2

IT IS THE SAME FLUID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
