Default Transmission Service question

I have a 2001 XJ8 with 111K on the clock. I have driven this car alot in the last year since my wife totaled our 04 xtype. I cannot remember when I had the transmission serviced. Honeslty I cannot remeber which jag I did it on. I am scared I forgot to do it on this one. Thing is I have no transmission issues. Shifts smooth, no noises & no clunking. Works as it did the day a bought it. My mechanic who I have used for years on this car made the statement that if I have not done it leave it. He said they are tricky and why mess with something that is not broke. I jsut feel that is old school mentality. What are your thoughts on this? Service or Don't Service....

Thanks

I believe as you do it is an old school mentality. In my eyes have worked on cars both as a profession and hobby all my life. It is always better to service them. I did it on my XJR not knowing if it had been serviced prior with 138K and the trans has never worked better. The same has been the case on all of my previous cars of various makes also. Never had a transmission go out after the service, due to that fact. The fluid at a point will lose it's valuable characteristics of friction modification that are vital to a transmission. I would do it myself.

At 111k its really overdue. Jag chart only goes to 100k so after that your supposed to buy a new car. As owners of used cars we are pushing our luck. After what I have learned I would go ahead at this mileage to drop the pan and inspect the valve body main pressure valve for wear. Replacing it early could reduce chances of an A drum catastrophe.
