Default Trunk light switch works backwards

Discovered an odd issue last night partially closing my trunk lid while charging the battery. My trunk light cam on about a foot from being closed and stayed on the rest of the way down. When I open the lid, the light goes off. Any ideas? Sounds like an issue with the switch but what? It obviously works. Just works backwards. :shrugs:

There is a wire bundle lead on the right side support arm in a wire loom. Wire in that loom is known to break, I'd check there for a short to start.

You damn 60 guys that get new equipment, then can't figure out the old broke stuff....lol

Hah!
I did check and saw nothing that sent up a red flag there but I'll look again. Thinking it's more a switch issue tho.

Well this I deed has me stumped. It's not that they don't work, they work when the lid is closed, not open. Wtf?

Re-examine that wiring loom and trace it all the way to the switch. If necessary remove the switch.

I should clarify. It works til it's open approximately 16", then goes out.

I found the problem and it wasn't that it was working backwards. It was coming on right as it opened but then when back out as broken wires were
being pulled apart. They were further forward of the hinge inside the loom closer to the gas tank.

Yeah, I despise it. My least favorite part of vehicle repair. Diagnosing is bad enough. Finding the actual problem even worse. And fixing it is often challenging as well.
I didn't fix it the best way I know but it should hold up fine. If not I'll do it the best way I know to and that's soldering the splice. Just a tough place to do it and I was too lazy to do it today after all the chasing it down.

The way around these problems -- unique to old cars, old houses, aged out people, et al -- is to buy new!

See, I'll never buy new. Cars, Harleys, houses. Lose too much $$$ out the door and I would void any warranty right off. Too much needs to be done to get a decent, cooler running engine that voids any warranty. Take my 2013 Heritage Softail Classic for instance. A free flowing exhaust with a cat delete alone voids the warranty. Replacing the EPA compliant cams voids the warranty. Use a tuner other than Harley's EPA compliant tuner which is useless and the warranty is done.
There's not a chance in hell I could leave my ride running EPA lean, hot and neutered just to keep it under warranty.

I can't believe the performance minded here go thru all the trouble of cold air intakes and exhaust mods but leave the cats?!?! And y'all leave the breather routing hot, oily gases into your intakes?. What's up with this?
Ive got some good pics courtesy of DK Customs that details just how carboned up your combustion chamber/pistons get not to mention the effect it has on your intake charge.

Houses losing money?...I'm up over $200k from my purchase price now and when the housing crash happened in '08, I was still up then. They don't make more land, so it becomes more valuable, especially here in FL.

But, I wholeheartedly agree on the other items and why I won't buy new. Especially jewelry, furniture and automobiles/scooters. Well, I have to bite the bullet on jewelry, the girlfriend would know in an instant...damned female intuition...I think she can smell it.
OH!!...and flowers, yeah...don't get used flowers ....or does that go without saying? I tried the potpourri route, but it didn't fool her either. ...I tried to convince her they'd last longer. ...banned to the couch.

I actually bought the wife's engagement ring used. It was a really expensive ring that happened to have her birth stone as well as multiple diamonds. I'd a had a hard time buying it new back then. -
Gotta go with your gut tho.
But yeah, houses are an exception but I still never bought new. 2×@

I don't have repair bills except for parts and for the most part warranties are seldom used. Especially with good maintenance and dealing with things like cats and crankcase venting early on. Simply put they're not worth the you and engine pays for that warranty.

Obviously and for some unknown reason y'all either don't realize or don't care that those two cats are by far the most restrictive part of the exhaust system besides causing a significant amount of heat. Reducing heat is one of the best things you can do for the overall health of any engine.
Especially one that's been prone to failures of plastic parts gone brittle because of it.
Forget the added performance realized without them.
I'll run open loop so long as I can access and edit parameters in the ECM with a tuner and tuning program. I'm sure the ECM/O2 sensor thing is easily fixed one way or another.
Has anyone here done it?

You may find this of interest... https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/j...project-52518/

Member like avos, XJR99 and Count Iblis are ones to review posts on mods. Addicted2boost and I have a system we are putting on mine shortly. I have to clean up some small issues before applying it.
