Default Trunk Lock

Hi All,

I haven't read though all of the threads yet, but I am working on it. Here's my problem 2001 XJ8 L push button (inside, trunk and key) does not work.

I can only open it with the key.

I have done some basic troubleshooting the solenoid works, but that's it.

I apologize if this has been covered before (pls give me a link to the thread).

Thanks,
99

is it in valet. if so it only opens with black master key. otherwise pull down the trunk lid covering and inpect the latch release motor and rod for operation and disconnection

It could be a broken wire at the hinge, inspect the wiring bundle that's tucked behind the rhs hinge cover that runs up into the trunk/boot panel.

You have to unwind the loom tape and inspect each individual wire for breaks, sometimes not easy to detect as the wires fracture inside their plastic covering. Chase the loom tape back to any bends.

Does the dash trunk switch work? You're using the black key, not the green one yes?
