Default Unable to fill the gas tank

I have a 2001 XJ8 and recently when filling the tank it will click off as if it is full at 3/4 of a tank. No matter how slow I go or how I nurse the fuel it comes up as full. I know based on the miliage that the gauge is reading acurate. I have searched around and have not found anything in the forum. Thanks in advance for any information.

It may be related to the charcoal canisters and associated plumbing or the Rochester valve. Try using the search with those topics.

yeah it was the charcoal canisters in mine, people have a habit of "topping" off their tanks which allows the gas to flow down the vent tube into the canisters. Around here, thats the number one cause of the "EVAP" code...
