So drained fluid removed filter, then valve body checked out with no problems. installed new updated pressure valve. neat trick putting O rings in freezer to shrink O rings. installed valve body, new filter again with new gasket. refilled using same fluid which only had about 25 miles on it. ran through gears topped off fluid. took it for a drive now everything is great shifts through all gears. the only thing I can think of was a bad filter. If you are going to change fluid and filter make sure you get a good filter not a cheap one like I did the first time, it does not pay spend the extra $10 dollars . as far as the upgraded pressure valve well worth the money extremely smooth shifting and feels like a new transmission. thanks for all the help and input jrb53

My suspicion is something was amiss with the valve body install that corrected itself on the second go around. Fixed by "removed and reinstalled same" I doubt there's a bad batch of filters out there, they are pretty simplistic in design/function where the valve body is very complex and tolerates no leakage, misalignment etc.
