we have a 2003 Jaguar XJ8. We were just about to retire it as a vehicle we use regularly and garage it and try to treasure it. Unfortunately The engine just -- died completely randomly one day. All we did was try to move it into the garage :-

We had it towed to our favorite mechanic. Unfortunately he says the timing chain snapped and bent one of the valves and as such the engine is not repairable, even though the rest of the car is in good shape. Even though we can find a replacement engine, he can't do the work and all of the people he knew that could work on the car either won't replace the engine or have gone out of business.

Does anyone know anywhere in the Rutherford, NJ 07070 area that might be willing to put the replacement engine in and/or might be able to help us? This was my husband and I's first car together and we really wanted to keep it forever and take care of it. Heck, if you have the skills we'd happily pay!

I live in clifton and have removed the heads from my XJR. Assuming you don't have a hole in a piston, you could likely get away with just replacing the bent valves, do some head repair, and the guides/chains. I would think you'd be looking at roughly $1000 in parts and machine work.

 

Yes, I was kinda thinking along those same lines.

 

I apologize but how exactly can I do that? :-) I’m not a mechanic. The one I used isn’t willing to do this work… :-)
