try an obd scanner that works! there's a list of known good ones on this forum. It should read when the key is in position II. Initially loading the SAE protocol. The Elm readers seem popular. What make/model is yours and have you tried it on another car? at $20-30 they're cheap enough things.

Mine is an ELM327 type device, hooked to a laptop. It works great for OBD stuff, but won't read Jag specific codes. The problem with car specific devices is they may not work on other vehicles.

None of the generic OBDII readers will read the Jaguar specific codes. Autoenginuity is the low price leader at just under $500 that reads all the codes.

Check out this link on all the readers.

However, now that the official Jaguar standard is the Mongoose JLR or other J2374-2 device, the autoenginuity does not look quite so cheap as compared to factory. The difference is that the supported J2374-2 devices can program modules in addition to the read-only capabilities of the AE.

To use the Mongoose, it looks like you also have to buy a factory subscription to (???) in addition to the Mongoose. By the time the dust settles and you have bought everything you need, you might need to spend $1000 or so to be in business.

What do you understand by saying "Jaguar specific codes"?! Do you get any codes at all with the ELM327?! I've tried to use one with Bluetooth and Torque Pro application on Android phone - it gets all the live data, everything is good but when I try to read the Error codes it processes and after reaching 100% of reading it shows up "No faults found" which in my case is impossible

And what version of ELM327 are you using - 1.4 or 1.5?!

I have ELM327 1.5a, and it reads the codes just fine using EasyOBD II. Well, I say it reads the codes, but my car has so far only given the P1111 code...

I would like to ask you for a favor... Can you send me (here in this thread or as private message) a link to ebay item (for example) with the exactly the same reader you have.

I ask you for this because I already tried two different obd readers (one with USB and one with Bluetooth) that have nothing to do in between (neither shape or manufacture) and they both were described as ELM327, but can't read codes I want to be sure that when I order something from ebay it will be (at least as appearance) the one I need

You may want to try one from obd.com . If you have a laptop, it uses usb hookup.
Works great for codes, also check item when engine on monitor rpm, speed, o2 sensors and other thing while driving. When you get the codes you can save the file , print it and it gives you the code results. I really like mine. Cost about $100.00 and the support is great. The guys name is Mike.

Good Luck PDF
